Mangalore: Dakshina Kannada district administration in association with Mangalore City Corporation launched ‘Kerosene Free City’ campaign, which aims to provide LPG connection to every home in the city.

‘Kerosene-Free City’ special campaign was inaugurated by Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment, B Ramanath Rai on Wednesday, October 8.

Speaking on the occasion Rai said “Every house should be provided with LPG connection in an economic range. This unique campaign aims at creating eco-friendly environment by forming kerosene-free city”.

Mangalore South MLA J.R Lobo informed, “Dakshina Kannada district should be known as the only district in the nation to provide LPG connection to all the houses. In this regard, special campaign will be organised on October 8, 9, 18 and 19 at Lalbagh, Surathkal and Kavoor. LPG gas connections will be provided from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm to those who are availing kerosene oil through ration cards.”

Briefing on the scheme, DC A B Ibrahim said that around 7,000 homes in Mangalore and Ullal areas do not have LPG connections. The project will cost Rs 4,000 per household. Leading banks have come forward to provide loans to purchase gas kits. For any enquiries regarding gas connection, people can call the toll-free numbers 1077 and 155313.”

Corporator Shashidhar Hedge, Deputy Mayor Kavitha Vasu, MCC Chief Whip Shashidhar Hegde was also present on the occasion.
