Bids to be invited for the Rs 4.97-crore project

Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo has said a laser show, musical fountain and other development works will be initiated at old deer park, which is a part of Kadri Park in Mangaluru. The State government has approved project worth Rs 4.97 crore.

Briefing reporters, on Monday, he said bids will be invited shortly for its development work through Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

The area of 4.01 acre of the deer park is with horticulture department. The work on construction of compound wall, security room and gate, projector room, water pond, ground level water storage tank, seating arrangements at fountain, seating arrangements at children’s park, pathway, semi permanent shop units site development work will be taken up at a cost of Rs 1.783 crore.

The work on park benches, granite benches granite cladding, decoration and park sculptures will be taken up at a cost of 19.2 lakh. The estimated cost of the musical dancing fountain with laser and video projection is Rs 2.09 crore. In the background of the laser show, it will highlight on the holy places of Dakshina Kannada, Yakshagana, Kambala and others. An amphitheatre (open air seating arrangement to view musical fountain show), landscape and compound wall for the area, will be part of the project.

He said there is a plan to make the road in between the old deer park and main Kadri Park as a shopping point with series of stalls on one side and parking facility on the other side. As per the proposal, tender is likely to be called in the first week of March for the work and the survey work to be completed by October end and work to commence in November.

In addition, he said a facelift to the existing Kadri Park is also being planned. The entrance gate would be developed at a cost of Rs 28 lakh under MLALAD.

There are plans to develop a park for the differently-abled children inside the Kadri Park at an estimated cost of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 18 lakh. The design for the park is ready and philanthropists have been approached for the same. A picnic corner will be developed on one side of the park.

Lobo said he has sought allocation of Rs 40 lakh in the budget for restarting the toy train inside the Kadri Park. The engine of the toy train is beyond economical repair. Hence, the Railways have estimated Rs 38 lakh for a new toy train.

Society mooted

The MLA said that discussions are being carried out on mooting a society for maintaining entire Kadri Park on the lines of a society that is maintaining Pilikula Nisargadhama. The society will be headed by Deputy Commissioner and will have representatives from Mangalore City Corporation, MUDA, horticulture department and donors.

Develop sites

Lobo said that MUDA will develop sites on survey number 152/2 at Padavu village, to be distributed among the police officers and personnel who were part of anti-Veerappan operation, at a concessional rate.

The government has already given a list of 16 police personnel for the same. This will include 30X40 width sites, 40X60 width site, one commercial site on 3.25 cents land, three corner sites, one site of 11 cents for proving basic amenities and park on 16.50 cents park.

The MUDA will develop the sites at a cost of Rs 1.05 crore. The tender for the work is likely to be invited in March, he added.
