Mangaluru: MLA J R Lobo along with the engineers of railways visited Jeppu Kudupady to review the railway underpass project here on September 20.
After visiting the spot, speaking to the mediapersons Lobo said, “At the Jeppu Kudupady, railway underpass work is nearing completion. The drainage work on both sides is pending and funds are reserved for the same. A part of the concreting work of the railway underpass which is pending will be completed within 45 days.
We need to make a connecting road, from Jeppu – Kudupady underpass to Kanikarabettu. We need land from the Railways and some private land too. The Railway department has agreed to provide 3.5 meters along its border of their property for the purpose of making a road. Whatever funds have been saved from the underpass work, we will utilize those funds for the connecting road, rest of the amount will be borne by the MCC. The total cost of the Railway underpass is Rs 4.58 crore.
He further said, from Kanikarabettu there is a level crossing where there is a subway type of rainwater drain. We are closing the level crossing since it poses a danger to the people, we are planning to make an approach road for the people of Kanikarabettu through which autos and two-wheelers will be able to move. At present, there is no road from Kanikarabettu and the place is like an island. Near the Fisheries college, we have land which will be used to make the road that will connect the national highway.
Road formation from Jeppu – Kudupady to Kanikarabettu and from Kanikarabettu will connect the national highway. Within 7 or 8 months the entire project will be completed. Since we need 7 meters wide land for the road to Kanikarabettu people of the area should co-operate. People should understand the situation and join hands with the MCC to complete the Kanikarabettu road.
At Kanikarabettu if we develop the road by closing the level crossing, we can avoid a number of accidents, The railway department will be benefited by this, Said Lobo.
