Mangalore: MLA J R Lobo celebrated Deepavali with the children of Bhagini Samaj at Jeppu here, on October 24.

42 children from Bhagini Samaj lit the diyas and bursted fire crackers. MLA Lobo distributed the sweets and fruits to the children. He also joined the children in bursting fire crackers.

Addressing the mediapersons Lobo said, “Today people are celebrating Deepavali. It is the festival of lights, and people celebrate Deepavali for three days. We, the congress party workers, thought of celebrating Deepavali with the less fortunate children of the Bhagini Samaj.”

He further said that when the entire country is celebrating Deepavali, some are deprived from celebrating the festival. “Children in Bhagini Samaj should not be deprived from celebrating the festival of lights. Let Deepavali bring joy, happiness, harmony and unity in the society.”

Later, Lobo distributed rice and sweets to two poor families from Jeppu.

The Treasurer of Bhagini Samaj, Vanamala Bhat said, “Every year donors bring sweets, fire crackers and fruits to the children. This year the Congress leaders, especially the MLA of Mangalore South Constituency J R Lobo, has come here to celebrate Deepavali with the children. The Congress leaders have brought fruits, sweets and fire crackers for our children. All the children here are very happy and eager to celebrate Deepavali with the MLA.”

Deputy Mayor Kavita, Corporator Rathikala and others were also present.
