J.R. Lobo, MLA, Mangalore City South and R. Roshan Baig, Minister for Information, Infrastructure Development and Haj met the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation G.M. Siddeshwar in Delhi on Tuesday and urged him to re-introduce the Mangalore-Kuwait flight service suspended by Air India Express about six months ago. They also met Rohith Nandan, chairman and managing director (CMD) of Air India.The release said that the Minister and the CMD had promised to look into the matter. Mr. Baig apprised Mr. Siddeshwar on the need to extend the runway at Mangalore International Airport by another 285 metre. Mr. Lobo told the Union Minister that if Mangalore runway was not extended, wide-bodied aircrafts could not land in Mangalore.

This would hinder cargo movement and “may also result in losing the international status.” The release said that Mr. Siddeshwar promised to look into the matter.
