Mangalore: Any person from the zilla panchayat level, corporation level or gram panchayat level if applies for power supply, he/she should be provided with power supply within 24 hours of their application. Failing to do so strict action will be taken against those responsible said, Energy minister D K Shivakumar at the press meet held at the MESCOM office here on March 2.

Addressing the mediapersons Shivakumar also said that, roof top solar project will be introduced in Mangalore. Under the RTS project scheme, 59 beneficiaries will be provided 0.5kW of solar unit at a cost of Rs 52,500/- per household. This scheme can also avail the benefit for which Gol subsidy at 30% and GoK subsidy at 20% will be supported against the total cost of Rs 1,05,000/- per unit. 30 Beneficiaries will be provided 1klW Of solar unit at a cost of Rs 1,05,000/- per household and can avail the benefit of Gol subsidy at 30% and GoK subsidy at 20% against the total cost of Rs 2,10,000/- per unit.

In this scheme, total 89 beneficiaries can be provided with Rooftop Solar Units on Pilot basis for which the government subsidy contribution would be Rs 62,47,500/-.

He further said that “Niranthara Jyothi”, scheme is proposed to be taken up in Chikmagalur and Shimoga districts replacing the existing RLMs units, This Minister Shivakumar further said that the will benefit all the villages with 24 hrs power supply duly bifurcating the agriculture loads from the existing feeders. It is proposed to construct about 179 NJ feeders at a total cost of REs 700 Crs approximately. The exact cost will be arrived after completion of DPRs which are under process.

He also said that in the state there will be no load shedding in the morning and evening because the examination are nearing and all the students are preparing for the exams. At this time there will be no load shedding in the district. If there are any unavoidable situations, prior information will be given. Authorities failing to follow the orders will be punished, he warned.

Minister Shivakumar further said that the farmers will get 3 phase power 7 hours in a day, like 4 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening. The government has already provided Rs 6200 crores subsidy for the farmers.

Shivakumar expressed his desire to make Karnataka as a “Power Sufficient State”. The state should attract Industries for investment. We have plans to buy 1000 mega Watt of power and tenders will be called. We have called for tenders to buy 450 Mega Watt from Damodhar Valley. Gujarat state is ready to share power and we welcome them to take part in the bidding process, he said.

He also announced that after a lot of pressure from the MLA of Mangalore south Constituency we have been able to start a Chief electrical Inspectorate in Mangalore.
