Mangalore: The centenary Year of the Rosario Cathedral was inaugurated by Bishop of Mangalore, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza at the Church premises here on March 2.

Prior to the inaugural ceremony, the Bishop celebrated the festive mass at 4 p.m. The stage programme began with a prayer dance followed by the welcomed dance. The Vice President of the Parish Council Dolphy D’Souza welcomed the gathering.

Parish Priest of Rosario Cathedral Fr J B Crasta briefed on the Centenary projects, and the Bishop unveiled the Centenary Projects.

In his inaugural speech Dr Aloysius said, “The Parish is one family and parishioners are the members of the family. When we celebrate the inaugural ceremony of the centenary, the Parish priest has planned 100 pastoral activities for the development of the Parish. Hope these activities will help the parishioners in a holistic way. We Christians have two families, one is our parish and another is our own house “.

He further said that when people consider the Parish as their own family, they serve that family with dedication and work for the total growth of the parish. We are seeing such services only in the Christian community because the Holy Spirit is guiding us. Parish Priest is like the head of the family and he will guide the parishioners and strengthen the bond between the Parish and the Parishioners. It is each one of our duty to serve the parish in our own ways and work for the development of the Parish.

MLA J R Lobo was felicitated by the Bishop on the occasion. A cultural programme was held soon after the stage programme. Secretary Parish Council, John D’Silva delivered the vote of thanks.
