Mangaluru, Sept 4: MLA J R Lobo condemned the incident where it is alleged that police showed disrespect to the Quran and tore Madrasa books while conducting a search in a house in connection with the murder of RSS worker Sharath Madivala.

Addressing media persons on September 4, Mr. Lobo said, “If the allegations against the police are true, they are highly condemnable. Police should be careful while handling such cases. They should not hurt the sentiments of any religion. A detailed investigation should be conducted into this incident and truth should come out at the earliest. I will write to IGP Hemanth Nimbalkar to look into this issue.”

Mr. Lobo also said that those at fault, be the police or the complainant, should be punished. “We do not want tension in the society. We should respect every religion. The Congress party endorses such views of secularism,” he added.
On Sept 2, police raided the house of Kalandar, a suspect in the murder of Sharath Madivala. It is believed he accepted Rs. 1 crore in connection with the murder. He is still absconding. From 10:30 in the morning till 2:30pm, police searched the house, throwing bedding, books, clothes and religious books on the floor . The police allege that this is false and the photos showing the Quran on the floor have been planted by people intent on creating tensions.

Corporator Lancelot Pinto and other Congress leaders were present at the press meet.
