Mangaluru, February 23: The developmental works of Gujjarkere lake was inaugurated by MLA J R Lobo on Thursday February 22nd during which Guddali pooja ceremony was also held.

During the ancient days, the Gujjarkere lake was linked with the historically renowned Mangala Devi Temple and Bolar Marigudi temple. But the lake has been ruined over time. Hence the development project has been undertaken to reconvert this lake using scientific method into a fresh water zone.

A function was organized at the venue on this occasion.

Addressing the gathering, J R Lobo expressed gratitude to the minor irrigation department for sanctioning Rs one crore for the development of Gujjarekere lake.

He said, a perfect blueprint for the Gujjarekere lake has been prepared. Appropriate measures would be initiated to avoid sewage water from entering the lake and a beautiful garden would come up around the lake. The encroached area surrounding the lake will be evicted, he said. He wished all success for the project, and said, the project will be completed before coming Dasara festival.

Mayor Mahabala Maarla, Deputy Mayor Kavita, Rathikala – local corporator, Swamiji of Ramakrishna Math, managing trustee of Mangala Devi Temple, Ramanath Hegde, Premananda Shetty, were present among others.
