Mangaluru, December 24: The “Karavali Utsav” was inaugurated by N Vinaya Hegde, chairman of Nitte Education Trust along with Dakshina Kannada district in-charge and minister for forest, environment and ecology B Ramanath Rai at Karavali Utsav Maidan on Tuesday, December 23rd.

The program was presided over by Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo. Ministers U T Khader, K Abhaychandra Jain, MLA’s Moiddeen Bava, Shakunthala Shetty, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Dk Zilla Panchayat president Asha Thimmappa Gowda, Mayor Mahabala Maarla, Deputy Mayor Kavitha, divya Prabha Gowda-President of State social Welfare board, Janaki M Brahmavara-president of Tulu Sahitya Academy, Roy Castelino-President of Konkani Sahitya academy, B A Mohammad Haneef-President of Beary Sahitya Academy, and Pradeep Kumar Kalkura- President of DK district KSP participated in the Utsav.

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim welcomed the guests.

N Vinaya Hegde in his inaugural address said, “I thank the almighty for this opportunity. I am unhappy with the way DK is moving ahead. We are fighting over petty issues and giving them communal colour. Many leaders have worked and made DK proud of their achievements. I wish that all live in brotherhood”.

B Ramanath Rai, district in-charge minister addressing the gathering said, “The Karavali Utsav ought to be a uniquely celebrated by all, forgetting the differences. Karnataka government is ready to give all support and for the Karavali Utsav it has already sanctioned Rs 50 lakhs. We have to win the world with love and not by hatred”.

In his presidential address MLA J R Lobo said, “This is the 15th Karavali Utsav. It provides a platform to exhibit our talents and Infrastructure to investors. We have to create a friendly atmosphere for tourism. We have many educational institutions but not a safe environment due to communal tensions. Parents do not feel safe to send their children to Mangaluru. Let us give up communal fights and concentrate on betterment of this land”.
