Mangalore, May 24, 2014 :  The foundation stone laying ceremony of the widening works of the Ullal-Maani  Highway  was held at Thokkottu  on May 24, Saturday.  HC Mahadevappa, Minister for Public Works and UT Khader,  Health and Family Welfare Minister laid the foundation.

In his address, Mahadevappa  said a total sum of Rs 6.5 crore including a Central Government assistance of Rs 5 crore and State Government share of Rs 1.5 crore would be released for the project at the earliest. He said the project envisages widening and asphaltation of a 15 km stretch out of the total 26 km stretch from Ullal to Maani. He said as part of the project, the road would be widened  by one meter on either sides.

He said along the stretch even the bus stands at Kuttar, Asaigoli and Natekal will be upgraded.

The Minister later inspected the ongoing works on the Ullal-Mastikatte Road  which is undertaken at a cost of Rs 2.5 crores.

AB Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner, JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South, Health Minister UT Khader were also present during the inspection.
