Mangalore, March 3, 2014: State Energy Minister DK Shivakumar has said that with an intention of promoting use of solar energy, the state government has implemented a solar rooftop project.

Speaking to press persons at MESCOM office on March 2, Sunday he said under the project the solar power can be used for household purposes while the surplus power will be transmitted to the electricity grid by the meter.

He said the government intends to make Karnataka self sufficient in power. The Minister also informed that all local bodies have been directed to sanction electricity for drinking water purposes within 24 hours of filing application.

The Minister also stated that a chief electrical inspectorate will be sanctioned in Mangalore   as per the request made by local MLA JR Lobo.

MLA Lobo, Govindappa, MESCOM Managing Director were also present at the press meet.
