Mangalore Oct 04: The Bishop Bellary Diocese and Chairman of Indian Catholic Youth Movement, New Delhi inaugurated the Diocesan Youth Convention-2014 organized by Central council of the ICYM Mangalore Diocese in Mary the Queen of Universe Church, Ranipaura near Thokkottu on 2 October Thursady.

The Bishop motivated the youth with his inspiring words in his inaugural address.

He said “You are the future of the country. The future of our country and the society lies in the hands of the youth. If the youth are good then the country will progess. God is our leader and hence we do not need to be afraid of anyone.”

We are a believing community. We are a worshipping community. We are the serving community. We do not feel hesitant to serve the country. Through our service we spread the message of Christ.

We have to build our dreams. Later we have to work for them. Nothing is impossible.

We should say ‘NO’ to violence and bad habits. We should say ‘YES’ to peace and harmony in the society. Hence we should develop a leadership that will do good to the society.

The Vicar General of Mangalore Diocese Very Rev Msgr. Said explained the support that the diocese gives to the catholic youth.

He said ” The diocese gives all the support to the youth. But we want the youth to come forward. Take an initiative and the diocese will help you in your needs . At this juncture I call upon you to take the best out of the convention and be the leaders of tomorrow.”

MLA of Mangalore South Constituency JR Lobo who was chief guest gave the call to make the best use of the opportunities.

The President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Roy Castelino, ICYM national Advisor Roy Castelino also spoke on the occasion.

President of the ICYM Mangalore Diocese Melrida Rodrigues welcomed the gathering while Organizing deanery president Ashwin rendered the vote of thanks.

Diocesan Youth Director Rev. Fr. Ronald D’souza, Deanery Director Alias D’souza, Programme Co-Ordinaror Derril Dsouza were among the present at the occasion.

The convention will be held till 5th of October and about 300 youth from all the corners of the diocese are taking part in the convention except the Pezar deanery which has organized a residential camp for its deanery youth.

Earlier the Bishop inaugurated the procession from Kuttar to the venue by handing over the convection flag to the central council president.
