MANGALORE: Centre for Integrated Learning, a city based NGO working in the field of education, in association with Lions Club Mangalore will organize CIL Science Fest 2014 to mark the National Science Day at Lions Seva Mandir in the city on February 28.

The day long inter-school fest will include an array of activities ranging from science competitions to discussions, presentation and lecture sessions.

Going with the National Science Day theme – “Fostering Scientific Temper” declared by the Department of Scince and Technology, Government of India, the keynote address on the subject will be delivered by Dr. B Srinivas Kakkilaya, consultant physician followed by competitions like science model building, elocution, science quiz and poster making. A short documentary film on Dr. C V Raman, produced by CIL will also be shown during the deliberation. National Science Day is celebrated across the country to mark the discovery of phenomenal theory called Raman Effect by C V Raman which won him the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1930.

With a view to encouraging teachers to take science passionately and inculcate sense of scientific temper among children, a government school teacher Padmashri from Government High School, Malali near Ganjimutt will be felicitated on the occasion.

CIL Science Fest will be inaugurated by K C Prabhu, district governor of Lions International District 317 D. Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo will deliver the valedictory address and distribute the prizes.

The exhibits of the science model building contest will be on display for general public and students during the afternoon till 4 pm. The organizers said over 200 children from as many as 25 schools from the district are expected to take part in the event.
