City observes Valmiki Jayanti

Mangalore: DK District In-Charge Minister B. Ramamntha Rai inaugurated Sri Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti on Wednesday, October 8 at Nethravathi Hall, D K Zilla Panchayath, Mangalore.

The programme was organised by Dakshina Kannada District Administration, Zilla Panchayath, Kannada and Cultural Department, Scheduled Tribes Development Department, Kannada and Cultural Department and Dakshina Kannada Valmiki Nayaka Association.

Mangalore South MLA J.R Lobo presided over the function.

Speaking on the occasion he said “Every community should be respected in the society. Certain communities are deprived of basic material and benefits in the society. The State government has implemented several plans to focus on the development of every community.”

Minister for Youth Services and Fisheries Abhaychandra Jain said “Education should be used as a medium to eradicate the problem of cast discrimination. Our great leaders in the society also focused on educating people.”

Dr Nagappa Gowda, Assistant Professor at Mangalore University College, Mangalore North MLA Moideen Bava, DKZP Vice President Sathish Kumpala, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, ZP CEO Tulasi Maddineni, Superintendent of Police Dr Sharanappa, Assistant Director of Kannada and Cultural Department B Chandrahas Rai and others were also present on the occasion.
